Cafes, Tearooms & Snack Bars around Edinburgh

eteaket Tea Room

41 Frederick St, Edinburgh EH2 1EP, UK – 0131 226 2982

Only second visit to Edinburgh, invited by some local ladies I had arranged to meet. We all enjoyed the scone tea, with varying drinks. Loved the individual coloured sandtimers, to show when each particular pot of tea was ready. Friendly and welcoming service, and excellent value. Wanted to book afternoon tea a few days later, but, fully booked! Can understand why.

Lovely place. Really good selection of tea. I love the way they bring the tea with an egg timer so you know how long to brew it. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They also sell their bagged teas and teapots. Recommend a visit.

Fredericks Coffee House

30 Frederick St, Edinburgh EH2 2JR, UK – 0131 260 9997

Apart from sharing a name with this place, I really enjoyed my visit. Food was good and the coffee was as you would expect from a upmarket cafe. They have lovely seats and the decor is on par with the growing vibe of The City of Edinburgh. Situated in the Old Town part of town in Frederick Street. This street boasts some lovely little places including art galleries and piano bars. Breakfast at Fredericks after a night out is the medicine you need to get through the day. Soft seats, warm and cold drinks, healthy, fresh and tasty sums it up for me. Please like my review if it has helped you.

Hidden on Frederick Street, this place was a lucky find. Wife had wine & a scone, I had an espresso, no complaints. Friendly service in a cozy setting making it an excellent escape from the madness of Edinburgh’s main Streets.

Cafe at the Palace

The Royal Mile, 98 Canongate, Edinburgh EH8 8DX, UK – 0131 652 3685

If you find yourself visiting the Palace at Holyrood House in Edinburgh, stop in and eat at the Cafe. We enjoyed a light lunch there on a Wednesday in May. The lines weren't long and moved quickly. We ordered the tomato soup, rolls and tea. For an American, the tomato soup was very tomato-like, but I added cream and some seasoning to mine and it became delicious. The cafe is reasonably priced and offers a nice selection of soups, salads and sandwiches.

The afternoon tea was quite affordable and very tasty. The tea selection was varied and they even offered coffee if you really wanted it. The server was very friendly although she had to take care of all the afternoon tea tables. The location of the afternoon tea was kind of dark, and the tables weren't completely covered in linen so it gave a bit of a cheap feel (understandable given the 18.95£ price point).

Uncle Fish & Chips

52 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1EJ, UK – 0131 261 6398

Great food and fair prices. Very quick service and friendly staff! Great place for food near Edinburgh castle.

We headed there for a bit of late evening sustenance and were welcomed by the lovely guys. A warm friendly place to grab some great fish and chips/haggis and chips!

Clam Shell

148 High St, Edinburgh EH1 1QS, UK – 0131 225 4338

It's a fast food imbiss. Nothing more. Fish and chips are okay (not good but ok) but I wouldn't recommend the pizza. Although it is freshly made it doesn't taste that well. If you want some extra sauce to your fish and chips you have to pay extra. If you want a fast and (relatively) inexpensive meal, you can go. Otherwise there are better places in the vicinity.

I got a kebab which tasted fine. They're open late compared to other restaurants in the area.

L'Alba D'Oro

7 Henderson Row, Edinburgh EH3 5DH, UK – 0131 557 2580

Needs to get their act together. Never seem able to have things ready at the same time. Grub is good but they have to get organised. You can only "wait for chips" to so long!

The food was cooked to perfection. The chips were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. It was a lovely meal.

Sandwich Bars, Deliveries & Lunchtime Snack Outlets around Edinburgh

Thistle Sandwich Bar

67 Thistle St N W Ln, Edinburgh EH2 1DY, UK – 0131 220 4396

Got a tip about this place from the hotel guy. Inexpensive filling breakfast. Pretty good selection for a small shop. Mostly take away. One 4 seat table. Breakfast deal with coffee for under £4. Great for the price! Long list of sandwiches if you're not looking for breakfast. Very casual.

Great breakfast meal. Very good value and the food came quickly. Service with a smile.

Millers Sandwich Bar

18 Hope Park Terrace, Edinburgh EH8 9LY, UK – 0131 668 2955

Outstanding. Great price. We went there as a family for breakfast. The owner was delightful. Food was hot, fresh and bountiful. I recommend the Miller Special.

Really good food! Good value

Finnegans Sandwich Bar

130 Dundas St, Edinburgh EH3 5DQ, UK – 0131 556 6732

Great bacon and haggis rolls in the morning. Decent options for lunches

Chinese Takeaways

Rendezvous Chinese Restaurant

10a Queensferry St, Edinburgh EH2 4PG, UK – 0131 225 2023

We had the set meal for two, it was really good. The decor is a bit basic so if you are seeking an intimate atmosphere then go elsewhere. However, if you Dont mind aesthetics and just want really good food then this could hit the spot.

The all you can eat buffet is amazing. Great range and reasonable price.

Silver Bowl

311 Leith Walk, Edinburgh EH6 8SA, UK – 0131 554 5709

good food at reasonable prices, without the overuse of MSG that is found in so many Chinese restaurants and takeaways

Just OK, would give only 3/5, and I am chinese. but everything is reasonable

Karens Unicorn

8B Abercromby Pl, Edinburgh EH3 6LB, UK – 0131 556 6333

Have never been in the restaurant, so this review is based on their takeaway. because of the prices we were expecting really delicious food. the soft noodles were great, however the 'salty spicy chips' tasted like normal chips and the salty spicy chicken was also neither salty or spicy. it was more like breaded chicken from kfc. the crispy honey shredded beef was alright, but still pretty bland. if the food had been spiced as advertised then i reckon it might have actually been pretty tasty. having to pay £4.90 for noodles/chips however is still crazy to me!

Superb chinese we had the banquet which was a massive amount of very tasty food. They were happy to substitute a dish for us.

Indian Takeaways

Noor

56 S Clerk St, Edinburgh EH8 9PS, UK – 0131 667 0404

My favourite Edinburgh Indian take away. I usually collect so can’t say much about the delivery service, but food is tasty, good value for money and usually ready within 20 minutes of ordering. If you don’t have cash on you there is a free cash point just across the road

Good place for a take away. Order ahead online and have your food waiting, or for a small fee delivered. Enormous portions and good quality Scottish Indian. The place is pretty much a hole in the wall so don't expect a world changing culinary experience.

Indian Flavour, Indian Takeaway

47 Ferry Rd, Edinburgh EH6 4AF, UK – 0131 554 5346

Excellent food enjoy every bit. They are winner Scottish Curry Awards 2018. Deserve it.

Superb. Ordered via website and popped in to collect. The guys were very busy but meal was ready in no time. Absolutely delicious too. Looking forward to the next visit.

Slumdog Delivered - Indian Takeaway

38-39 Elm Row, Edinburgh EH7 4AH, UK – 0131 297 3297

Tasty curry, made with high quality ingredients. But their deals are only available Mon-Thu. Disappointing!

Excellent meal here tonight, and very good service. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Takeaway Food

KFC

11, Princes Mall, Princes St, Edinburgh EH1 1BQ, UK – 0131 556 2772

Fast friendly service in the mall. Plenty seating inside and out. Tables are kept tidy but can be a bit close together in some parts of unit.

KFC

7 S St Andrew St, Edinburgh EH2 2AU, UK – 0131 557 5707

Really nice place with good food and good aesthetics (music playing in a relaxed environment). Only problem was the toilet which was dirty and smell. Would have given it 5 stars.

KFC... What can I say other than chicken. Very central, close to Waverley train station and just off princes street and St Andrews square. Looks small from the outside but has extra seating downstairs.

KFC

36 Nicolson St, Edinburgh EH8 9DT, UK – 0131 662 9533

A bit small and often crowded but staff are friendly and the food is good.

Small (not kids friendly) but the staff were helpful.
